I spent a great deal checking all the options before settling on this ACER laptop. It is or my 9 year old son, so I was looking for something that gave reasonable perforamnce in basic functions such as web surfing and writing documents at a reasoanble price and this certainly fitted the bill.
It was very easy to setup and was up and running in no time at all. That's when I hit the snag - as soon as I moved the laptop more than a metre from my wireless router it lost connection. After several reboots and reloading drivers it was still no better. I knew it was the kaptop having an issue with range as I had five other laptops connecting at the other end of the house with no problem. However, I can have nothing but praise for Amazon's customer service. No quibbles, no declarations that it must be my fault. The faulty laptop was collected the next day and the replacment arrived the day after. This one worked perfectly. | | Good value for money: Rating: 4/5 |
I bought this laptop on special offer at Tesco.
On the plus side it is light, reasonably fast (can play High Definition Video without trouble).
The screen is bright very clear and good contrast although I do not like the new glassy screens which are very prone to reflections.
I used it on battery only and got nearly 3 hours on one charge doing light use (internet browsing, looking at photographs etc). This is better than advertised but will of course reduce as the battery ages. It runs very quietly which is good.
On the minus side I do a lot of graphics and the the built in touch pad in laptops is not good for this purpose so I use a USB mouse. The USB connections are on the left side of the computer resulting in the mouse cable going round the back of the lap top to the get to my right hand.
Also on the minus side the SD card slot is very awkwardly placed well under the moulded curve at the front of the case and the card has to be pushed in below the level of the slot. To make this worse the spring inside is far far too strong so expect sore fingers when you use this facility.
Unfortunately the most critical info one would like for a laptop, reliability and lifespan cannot be predicted but if this one lasts over six years like my trusty Samsung V25 which is still going strong I will be delighted.
Overall I recommend this computer and bearing in mind the small niggles above I award it four stars.
