Well done Asus.Asus 1001HA 10-inch Netbook (Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, WLAN, Webcam, up to 4 hr Battery, Windows XP, White) | | Great little PC!: Rating: 5/5 |
I bought this netbook from Amazon and it arrived the next day. The PC is a lot smaller than I expected, but it is perfectly useable. The screen is clear (although it would be good if the resolution was a bit higher), the keyboard is plenty big enough, PC fast enough for internet and office apps, it's just very easy to use. It worked straight out of the box with almost no setup (just date and time type of stuff).
I'd also like to point out that some reviewers have mentioned that the @ and " symbols are on the opposite keys. The PC I recieved has those symbols on the correct keys. Some people have also mentioned that speakers are not very loud. I'd have to disagree with that, the speakers are more than loud enough.
All in all, a great netbook that does the job. | | My Netbook Purchase: Rating: 4/5 |
I purchased this netbook in early February for my wife's neice and it has worked tremendously well.I tested it wirelessly on my BT homehub and it was a treat to use. The only problem I found was the [@]character was where the
[2] character should be on the keyboard. Apart from that , all's well.

For me the ideal eeePC was the 901. This one is just a bit too big. The whole point of a netbook is to be able to carry a small very portable sub-laptop for when you are out, not as a replacement for your main PC. Also I was a bit annoyed that I had to buy one with Windows on it. EeePCs used to come with Xandros Linux on them and while it is not my distro of choice I would have liked the option to be able to buy one without enriching Microsoft. As it is I immediately put Ubuntu 9.10 on it and it runs like a charm. I would also have liked to buy one with a solid state drive rather than a hard drive which would up the battery life more and cut the weight which is, after all, one of the points of a netbook. Unfortunately all the netbook manufacturers seem to have forgotten that netbooks are netbooks and not laptops which is a bit of a pity although it makes the keyboard easier to use if you have large fingers.
I can't comment on Windows XP performance as it is now running Ubuntu Linux now (the full one, not UNR) but Linux performance is excellent. It is also possible to have a backup distro on a SDHC card in case of emergencies as the SD card slot is on the USB bus and therefore bootable so you can run a live or installed Linux distro on a card without having to have a USB key sticking out of the side.
There are people reviewing this item complaining that the @ and " keys are the wrong way round. This is a problem with Windows not the machine and it is just that the keyboard map is set to US rather than GB. It's fairly easy to do - in the Control Panel and the Region and Language options if I remember correctly, but I seem to remember having to set the menu to Classic View before I could find what I was looking for (I'm not a Windows user and it was a while ago so I may be misremembering) | | Asus 1001HA Netbook: Rating: 5/5 |
| This netbook was a Xmas present for my wife and now she spends all her time talking to her overseas family on the webcam on Skype. She is over the moon. I stole it a couple of times and I can't believe how small and light it is and it does everything. Unbelievable value. | |
