This is a really neat little netbook, my model came with Instant Web which means you can access internet mail (Hotmail and the like)as well as surf the net without having to start the Windows 7 software, in effect this means you are up and running very quickly. One slightly annoying aspect though, you have to open a web page and get the 'page unavailable' notice before icons appear in the 'system tray' so the wireless connection is not available until this time.
Overall I found the HP Mini comfortable for many tasks the keys are comfortably curved and when the battery pack is attached the computer sits at an angle, raised at the back to give a comfortable typing position. You wouldn't want to do loads of work on such a small screen but is is bright and clear and small enough to stow easily.
The windows 7 Starter edition was favoured ahead of XP and I'm glad I chose it as it handles programs competently and without fuss. | | A good compromise: Rating: 4/5 |
The HP mini 110-1130 is a great little machine that holds its own in a very crowded market.
In the netbook niche, it's acceptable to trade some of the high-end power that you gain from a larger entertainment PC, for the tiny form and function of a mini. The Mini 110 isn't the fastest on the block, but it's hardly a slouch either. The screen is bright and attractive, and the keyboard is one of the best around. The 6 cell battery seems to last forever too!
I wouldn't want to use the Mini all day long, simply because the screen resolution leads to a little too much scrolling around in web pages for my liking. It's perfect for picking up and sending off a quick email, letter, finding a train time or doing some surfin' and shopping. It's also great for playing videos or using for Skype as the webcam is a no-nonsense joy!
This PC has a separate bootable chip that will provide you with super-fast access to a web browser, skype and photos without the need to boot Windows. It's a nice feature though Windows 7 boots in seconds so I haven't really had the need.
My only gripe, is the mouse pad. It's ok, but I find the pointer racing off like it has an appointment on another page! It can get really annoying when scrolling around web pages. That said, it might be resolved in new driver patches.
Overall, an eminently portable, attractive and useful machine. I have the white swirl model which might be trying to be a little apple-ish, but who cares! | | lovely wee netbook: Rating: 5/5 |
| This is a great wee netbook. Its small and lightweight making it much more portable than my laptop. It has windows 7 which is great and easy to use and has good battery life in comparison to some of the other netooks i looked at. If i was to point out one possible negative is that the 6 cell battery sticks out underneath. However for the extra battery life it is worth it plus i actually find it quite handy as it means when it sits on a table it sits at an angle that is easier to work at, so it isnt really a negative unless you are sitting it on your knee. Overall its great, the keys are a good size and easy to type on and the spec very reasonable for its size.Even the casing with the white swirls are nice and tastefull! | |
