| Customer Reviews: Average Rating: 4.5/5 | | Nice netbook: Rating: 5/5 |
| Everything that I found in reviews stands, very nice, light, compact, still good size keyboard and screen, excellent for traveling, very good batery life, like brushed aluminium top around keyboard, android also OK, delivery perfect as ever...good stuff and good buy (and good bye :=)). | | Excellent Netbook: Rating: 5/5 |
I purchased this Netbook a couple of months ago and since then I more or less carry it with me all the time as it is almost as essential to me as a carrying a mobile phone. Its sturdy, compact, light (1KG) and very usable being more or less the size and weight of a book and fits nicely into a bag or rucksack it when in a neoprene sleeve - in comparison to a normal laptop .
The battery is 6hrs which is good but can actually last about 8hrs is the brightness of the display is turned down. The screen size and the keyboard whilst smaller than a regular laptop are more than adequate - the screen is bright and clear. Sound quality is excellent using head phones but the built in speakers a too quiet an tinny so some users might want to get a pair external speakers and likewise, the Netbook lacks a DVD drive, again a external portable can be purchased as well. I have tested the web cam to haven't really made use of it.
Excellent for internet access when down the pub or watching a BBC I player download on the train or bus and for writing a word document in bed. The machine generally performs well at basic tasks like web surfing and using ms office which is mainly what it to be used for. BBC I player playback is a bit sluggish picture wise but I think that is more a problem with I player as I don't have a problem with content on Google video or You Tube.
It comes dual boot with Windows XP and Google Android. I haven't used Android much. Ok there isn't is pile of free software with it but these days it isn't a problem since its mainly for web surfing and also Software as Office 2007 Home and Student or Norton 360 and other programs can be loaded on up 3 machines.
All in all, an excellent purchase which I am well happy with. | | not worth the try: Rating: 1/5 |
although this product looks the part it does not come up with the performance expected. The sound output is almost non existent, i hate wearing earphones , but with this you had no choice Many of the preinstaled software was not and is not needed (there are far better alternatives). The start up was slow and in anything but low light the display could not be seen, outdoor use is impossible.
If you buy this product , i would wipe the hard drive and install all of the software to suit your needs , but that would still leave the hopeless sound output and miserable display (when will manufacturers realise that these produts should have displays that can be read outdoors). All in All i will stay with my tower and laptop.Oh i did not mention the preinstaled ANDROID software , again no thank you!!!!!!! | | Acer Netbook Assessment: Rating: 5/5 |
I bought this notebook for my wife who is taking a recreational OU course and she loves it. I read as many of the reviews as I could before deciding on the Acer which had the least number of negative comments by far. The notebook was extremely easy to set up and operate, the keyboard deserves particular praise. My wife does not find the compact screen size a disadvantage and likes the overall compactness and light weight. She did not find the touch pad to her liking so I added a small USB mouse which overcame this issue. There has been no particular problems with internet, skype or any of the usual software but do not find Android of any value. The battery life has been pretty well as specified and providing 6 hours usage from so small a unit is remarkable. This unit has impressed so much so my daughter has just bought one as well. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Acer Aspire One to others.
(by the way UK dates are day/month/year not month/day/year as you used in your e-mail to me)

Excellent! Android is a waste of space as are the various "trials". It is more powerful than the desktop system I had 9 years ago. XP is fine but I installed W7 Starter. Wow! The screen is superb, albeit reflective.
It has demonstrated that desktop systems are unneccessary for most users. |
