| Customer Reviews: Average Rating: 4.5/5 | | Samsung NT140 Notepad: Rating: 5/5 |
| Excellent little note pad, perfect for doing work on the move, battery life around 7/8 hours depending on what you are using. Ideal for work or games whilst flying even in economy seating. Looks very cool as commented on by several clients of mine | | Just remember it's a netbook: Rating: 4/5 |
This was mostly an impulse buy as I already had a laptop. The problem was that the laptop wasn't very good in the first place: an HP model with an advertised battery life of just one hour. Shame on me! Rather than invest in another laptop, however, my focus turned to something I could use for hours at a time, without having to worry about battery life.
After doing some due diligence on the Internet, the Samsung netbooks came highly recommended most of all. I was adamant that I got the white version of the N140, purely for aesthetics.
Admittedly I haven't used it much since I first got it, but I have to say that it's very impressive. Straight out of the box, and without charging the battery at all, it had about four hours of charge. I am concerned, however, that the nine-hour charge that the title of this product suggests, is an exaggeration: some sources say that the maximum is more like six hours.
By far the biggest adjustment one will have to make is with getting used to the keyboard: for one, the Home and End keys have been relegated to "function commands" (i.e. you have to hold down the function key and press the left or right arrow to use them). The return key is just a large rectangle, and the backspace key has shrunk considerably. If you type documents a lot, you will notice the frustration immediately.
Probably the best move Samsung has made - and one that hasn't been mentioned anywhere - is to include a basic Samsung-branded wallet for your netbook. It's light and does the job.
I have some more testing to do with the netbook, but at present I would recommend it. Just remember that it's a netbook, and it's designed for portability rather than replacing a PC. | | Samsung 140: Rating: 5/5 |
| A good, light (1.25Kg) netbook, with plenty of battery life (about 10 hrs, and good keyboard. However, it has the usual small cursor keys . | | Another great little Samsung Netbook: Rating: 4/5 |
I am writing this on my new Samsung N140 from Amazon.
My first experience with Samsungs was at christmas when I got my wife a Samsung N110, the slightly enhanced big brother of the famous N10 which is still (at the time of writing) the only netbook to recieve a 10/10 from trusted reviews.
The N140 is just as good and adds the bonus of the sleep and charge USB and the slightly larger keyboard and trackpad with awesome battery life!
I think this keyboard is the best one out there, and I dont like the new style one on the n150... i just feel the keys will come off (i'm sure they wont!)
The track pad is very good and has some extra functionality (you can zoom in and out and scroll using 2 fingers) which is useful once you realise you can do it!
It hasn't been charged since i got it set up (it takes a couple of hours to delete all the gunk they insist on installing - some of the Samsung utilities are very good however) and I have been using it for maybe 2/3 hours a day and I have still have 31% battery left and that is on perhaps 50% power saving settings! Going back to those utilities, there is one which manages charging and only charges the battery up to 80% to prolong it's life... very clever!
I also like the samung back up software which backs up your data to a 'secure' partition.
I havent got the 2gb upgrade yet but think I will as it did start to slow down on a word doc which contained some graphics.
Other good points include the very smart zip up carry case which comes supplied and the non glossy finish of the white version which means no finger print marks and makes it stand out a bit from the crowd.
In summary, I think it is well worth a look if you want a very good quality bit of kit at a reasonable price! | | Great portable computing: Rating: 5/5 |
Having become a real fan of netbooks as a result of carrying a Samsung N110 around the USA on an extended business trip and vacation, my wife decided she wanted one of her own. The N140 in white was on special so we purchased one. I'm now envious because the (slight) design changes are definitely an improvement over my N110 - although the major reasons for buying Samsung still remain too - build quality, price, keyboard, screen clarity.
The only downside is that we are now a 4 PC household - so I need to invest in more external storage, network attached printer.... | |
