| Customer Reviews: Average Rating: 4.5/5 | | Exellent, but not a netbook next time: Rating: 4/5 |
I have owned this product now for over a year, I can only say that I am very pleased with my purchase. My current laptop at the time had given up the ghost and I required a new computer primarily for internet access, e-mail and other low intensity applications. I chose to upgrade to 2GB of RAM relatively quickly and believe it has made a difference in the long run to how the computer performs. I also have a 22" monitor (LG M227WDP 22 inch Wide Monitor with Digital TV Tuner) which I use often with the NC10 as I find for some applications it is required.
I have extensively ran Windows 7 on the device which operates very efficiently. However, with the lack of a CD drive, many consumers will find it difficult to upgrade from Windows XP which is supplied on the netbook.
As the internet has developed, even in the short time I have owned the Samsung NC10, requirements of the computer have increased. This is where I will point out the major flaw in the device and in netbooks as a whole. It is incapable of playing quality video. This may not be an issue but with services such as BBC iPlayer so popular, it could be. Not having the ability to select the very tempting 720p option on Youtube is also very frustrating.
If you can cope with the small screen and have a desktop to cope with any more heavy duty tasks which may be required of a computer, I can highly recommend this product. The battery life is excellent. However, even those who only wish to access the 'net', I would advise a similarly priced low end laptop from Dell or Acer for example. | | major flaw: Rating: 2/5 |
I bought this net book based on previous reviews but was horrified to find the Atheros Wlan is a very temperamental being indeed! It would not work wirelessly with my home router - Netgear DG834G - even though it said the connnection was excellent. I have not had a problem with three other laptops, an ipod touch and a Nokia phone.
I am reasonably adept in the workings of computers and it has taken me two days of googling and research to find the solution - to download an OLD driver.
During my research I discovered that I am not alone.
Given that the reason for buying a netbook is to get on the net, then people should be warned.
The NC10 looks nice, seems nice and, hopefully, it will be nice. Amazon's delivery was second to none. But I am not sure how many people would persevere with the foibles. | | Was worried, now happy: Rating: 4/5 |
| Bought this because I needed to get a seperate machine, from my work machine, for personal email, and other bespoke bits of software that I like to access, also I wanted to get another XP machine before XP taken off the shelf. My concern was whether, compared to my work machine, which has a higher spec CPU (2.2ghz Dual Core), the lower spec CPU would feel to slow. Reality is that I find this machine just as quick, if not quicker sometimes, than my work machine, probably because it is not running all the enterprise software that sucks up so many CPU cycles. I like very much the Samsung backup software on the NC10 that means I have the comfort that if all goes wrong I can quickly get the machine back into working order. Only reason I ducked a star was because the Sumsung additions, which are pretty useful, don't work properly if you setup a standard user. You pretty much have to run as admin if you want all the Samsung provided extras to work smoothly. | | 6.4h and still running!: Rating: 5/5 |
I bought this product for my father.
The quality is very good. Netbook is easy and comfortable in use.
But the main thing you all need to know about this equipment is battery life.
I formatted the battery and I left it charging for whole night. At the morning, I created a play list of few movies and I started playing them on full volume and full brightness.
6.5h later, it was still playing! Amazing battery life.
You can't go wrong with this netbook! | | travelling-I wouldnt be without it: Rating: 5/5 |
This little machine solves the problem of overseas travel and keeping my business going. I always found a lap top too heavy and cumbersome especially with limited allowances when flying. The NC10 is so light it can be carried in one hand. I soon got used to the small screen and despite warnings of slow operation I found it quick enogh for surfing, checking e-mails and sending attachments.
