| The ideal Internet companion, the ultra-small Inspiron Mini 9 delivers great connectivity in a convenient, lightweight design. |
| Customer Reviews: Average Rating: 3.5/5 | | Use it instead of desktop.: Rating: 4/5 |
I have had it for a year now and use it rather than turning on the desktop computer for everyday needs. It takes about a minute to power up and connect to the internet on the WIFI. For serious use it can be connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Linux was a bit strange for someone used to Windows but is quite intuitive to use and rarely locks up.
Things I don't like:
The battery only lasts a couple of hours.
Not as many applications available for Linux as for Windows.
The help pages are hard to understand for someone unfamiliar with Linux.
Battery doesn't charge if in Airplane mode and this is not mentioned in the user guide.
I read in another review that it won't work with Dell printers, but I have never tried it with a printer.
Apart from that I am very pleased with it. | | Excellent little machine: Rating: 4/5 |
I bought my Mini 9 direct from Dell over a year ago. It came with Ubuntu 8.04 'Hardy Heron', with a rather horrible 'quick launch' overlay from Dell which I immediately removed. Hardy Heron worked very nicely. Recently I've upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix, and that's proving even nicer. The machine has been absolutely reliable, except for a tendency to fail to wake from sleep mode. It's very compact, the keyboard is good, the screen bright and clear, the battery life long. It's also proved pretty robust, and, despite a hard life on the road, still looks very smart.
I've used it for web browsing, word processing and email, as most users will, but also for network security testing and a small amount of programming. It's been a very good machine and I'd have no hesitation buying another. | | Brilliant!: Rating: 5/5 |
| Typing is a little fiddly at first, but it's a great little machine for odd tasks and bringing with you to work/school. Pretty speedy too (for what it is) | | Great PC(or Mac): Rating: 5/5 |
| Bought this because I heard it makes a great little Hackintosh. So far my experience has been great.Long battery life and everything works, which is a first for any Hackintosh I've attempted.Solid little computer and so cheap! | | Excellent netbook!: Rating: 5/5 |
Shocked to see the reviews so low on this device.
You can't really compare it to other netbooks considering they are so similar!
The looks to me are the best of a netbook, looking like a shrinked down version of a big laptop... I think it's very cute!
Just want to say that I think this is a very good netbook and worth a buy!
