Belkin Mobile Numeric Keypad, USB - 19Keys, Slim Design
I was looking for a simple USB wired keypad (due to some bother with wireless interference) and chose this on the manufacturer's name.
I have used Belkin products in the past and found them reliable, and this was certainly up to scratch: simple to use straight from the box, well made, and 100% reliable - utterly bombporof even to those with heavy fingers! | | Bellkin mobile numeric keypad on Mac: Rating: 4/5 |
| I bought this solely to use on a MacBook Pro (running OS 10.5) to use on Sibelius (currently 6.1), since the alternative key combinations on the main keyboard are a nuisance to use. For that purpose it is basically fine, with the exception that the Enter key is defaulted to operate as a Return, instead of a proper Enter, which results in those numeric commands not operating correctly in Sibelius (but there is a key alternative which works instead). I read some Sibelius user comments on the Sibelius site which suggested that a more expensive numeric keypad (and there are several around) might work properly on the Enter, but decided to risk the possibility that this one would not, since it is so cheap. Apparently it's very difficult to tell in advance with most cheap numeric keypads how they will be set up, and this feature can in any case change when an updated model is brought out. It is extremely easy to connect up to the MacBook, which recognises its presence straight away, but just has to be told it is a keypad (mine didn't seem to get as far as that detail) and thereafter it worked fine. When disconnected and reconnnected at a later time it didn't need to be reconfigured. Bill, London October 2009 | | Very useful accessory: Rating: 4/5 |
| I have found this keypad invaluable having recently changed to a laptop at work I struggled when away from my full keypad on the desk, now with this keypad with it's light slim design and non-slip feet I can rattle my way through spreadsheets with my usual ease. | | Pity - could have been good: Rating: 3/5 |
The Belkin USB numeric keypad seems like a good idea, and it does work well but, I do have a couple of design complaints.
Firstly, the actual USB connection cable is very stiff so the pad cannot easily be placed close to the keyboard in a natural place to use it.
Secondly, they have decided to include a "000" (Treble zero, not double zero) key next to the zero key and in the middle of the bottom row. I cannot see any reason for having that key, and it makes it very easy to enter the wrong value.
It claims to be a slim design, but 7cm x 12cm x 2cm is not small. | | Handy and good value: Rating: 4/5 |
| Bought this for my MacBook, mainly to use for Sibelius and InDesign. Worked fine with Sibelius, but not with InDesign, though I do have a very old version. Beyond that, plug it in and it works (on the Mac of course). Keys are good, and so is the price. | |
